Ahmedabad’s architecture has been influenced by cultures from all over the world. Step wells, one of the splendid glories of Ahmedabad, were first built in 600 AD. Cradled in immense climatic variations and erratic monsoons, step wells had turned out to be the solution to some of the problems in earlier times. Step wells such as Adalaj Ni Vav depict six centuries of the cultural heritage of Ahmedabad.

Ahmedabad’s Intangible culture offers a glimpse into the rich repository of history and cultural heritage of my city, which is India’s first UNESCO World Heritage City. Intangible culture of Ahmedabad reverberates a stronger sense of identity among us, which helps us recognize the influences on people, places, time, and events in shaping who we are, from where our feet land first, in our local land and environment

The Chipko Movement was first led by Amrita Devi Bishnoi and later initiated by Sunderlal Ji Buhuguna. Sunderlal ji Buhuguna participated in the Chipko movement and fought the Gandhian way against the construction of Tehri dam. This non-violent movement inspires me to the core of how his dedication led towards the conservationnd restoration of India’s natural resources, during those times.
