Ahmedabad-“my city my heritage”, a series of architectural illustrations by Aarya Chavda is a humble tribute to offer a glimpse into the rich repository of history and heritage of Ahmedabad, which is now recognized as India’s first UNESCO World Heritage City.

It’s an honor quite unlike any other. The 5.5 km walled old city with people living in century old wooden residences in around 600 pols are regarded as living heritage. This makes the city third UNESCO World Heritage site in Gujarat, after Rani Ni Vav and Champaner-Pavagarh Archeological Park.

More than 600 year old city of Ahmedabad was founded by Sultan Ahmed Shah in 15th century, who shaped the city’s identity by encouraging the confluence of Hinduism, Jainism and Islam in architecture and art.

It also inherits the “Legacy of Mahatma Gandhi” who chose the city to inspire the world towards truth and peace. Apart from its rich heritage visionaries like Le Corbusier and Louis Kahn established institutions and gifted the city with their master works of architecture.

Besides its architectural marvels, the true identity of Ahmedabad lies in the depth of its spirit. It retains its glory of co-existence in diverse culture and communities, and is regarded as the cultural asset of the country.
